14 May 2019
UNESCO is proud to once more open the doors to its Headquarters for the European Night of Museums. Visitors will have the opportunity to discover the architecture of the most international building in Paris, along with works of art from its remarkable Collection. For this edition, the Organization will host the exceptional display of a selection of major works from its Collection to which the public does not usually have access: works by Vasarely, Bogart, Guinovart, Brizzi, Portocarrero, among others, will join those by Calder, Erró, Giacometti, Miró, Moore, Picasso or Noguchi, already visible in the areas that can be visited.
An exhibition of photographs of Havana, presented by Cuba in celebration of the 500th anniversary of the foundation of the city, with which UNESCO is associated, will also be on show.
For the first time, UNESCO has also established a partnership with Paris Gallery Weekend (17-19 May), an event that brings together more than 50 Parisian galleries and institutions of modern and contemporary art with the aim of highlighting the dynamism of the cultural scene in Paris, through various itineraries and events that the public can freely follow.
Within the framework of this partnership, two short films produced by the 3e Scène of the Paris National Opera, that explore the encounter between classical music and street dance, will be shown on loop in UNESCO’s main auditorium: “Les Indes galantes” by Clément Cogitore and “Grand Hôtel Barbès” by Ramzi Ben Sliman. The 3e Scène is the digital stage of the Paris Opera; it invites artists from diverse backgrounds to create original works related to opera, music and dance, and makes them accessible for free on the platform.
