The full and equal participation of women and girls in science can play a vital role in ensuring the diversity of scientific research, expanding the circle of talented researchers and bringing new perspectives to solve modern problems. Convinced of this, the UNESCO Almaty Office organized a celebration of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science in order to immerse students to the wonderful world of science. In recent years, women's participation in research, especially in leading positions, has varied from region to region and has constantly changed depending on specific fields of activity and age groups. The gender gap in science has narrowed, but the gap between awareness of one's own scientific potential and aspirations in this field remains large.
Science and gender equality are vital in ensuring sustainable development. However, women and girls are still excluded from participating in science: women make up less than 30% of researchers worldwide.
